This month, coinciding with Visual Health Month, we have developed the 2nd Edition of "Customize your LUPER glasses"
What is "Customize your LUPER glasses"?
"Customize your LUPER glasses" is an initiative we have carried out in schools to raise awareness about the considerable increase in myopia at increasingly younger ages. This increase in myopia has been especially aggravated by the lockdown experienced during the previous year. Because by not going outdoors, not perceiving natural light, and not focusing at long distances, the eye adapts to short distances, which has made it more difficult to focus at long distances. In addition, sunlight releases dopamine in the retina; this substance prevents the eyeball from elongating and helps prevent the increase in myopia.
This, coupled with the change in lifestyle we have been experiencing for years with the daily use of electronic devices (Tablets, mobile phones...) and the increasing amount of time children spend on them, has been the determining factor in this considerable increase at an early age.
This significant increase in myopia at an early age has only confirmed the hypothesis that environmental factors, and not just genetic ones, can increase or decrease this refractive error.
With this action of our "Customize your LUPER glasses" contest, at óptica LUPER we want to make visible this new silent pandemic of the 21st century. Without the use of glasses being something embarrassing for children and teaching it in a creative way; by customizing their own LUPER glasses themselves.
What is myopia?
It is a common type of refractive error through which nearby objects are seen clearly, but distant objects appear blurry. This happens because images are focused in front of the retina and not on it, causing blurry distant vision.

Tips we give you from LUPER:
It has been proven that natural light is a determining factor in the prevention of myopia. Therefore, we advise:
- That your child plays outdoors.
- When reading and watching television, try to do so with natural light.
- Avoid getting too close to mobile phones, tablets or computers.
At óptica LUPER we are very happy with the impact of this 2nd Edition. And we are already preparing everything for the 3rd Edition. The glasses with the most votes will receive a great surprise... we can't tell you yet... but we will soon!!
