Óptica LUPER se traslada a los colegios de MURCIA para concienciar sobre la nueva pandemia silenciosa del S.XXI; la miopía.

Óptica LUPER is going to the schools of MURCIA to raise awareness about the new silent pandemic of the 21st century: myopia.

Óptica LUPER has moved to some of the schools in the Region of Murcia:

  • American School of Murcia.
  • Centro Concertado de Enseñanza Samaniego.
  • CEIP Avileses
  • Colegio CEU San Pablo Murcia.

On the occasion of International Creativity Day to present its pilot activity "Personalize your LUPER glasses"

This initiative aims to raise awareness in classrooms, thanks to the work of teachers, about the new silent pandemic that is affecting more and more people at increasingly younger ages: myopia.

What is myopia?

It is a common type of refractive error through which nearby objects are seen clearly, but distant objects appear blurry. This happens because images are focused in front of the retina and not directly on it, causing distant blurry vision.

Is it genetic?

Myopia has a significant genetic factor and usually appears at an early age (before 6 years old). Currently, the incidence of myopia has increased so much in recent years that the genetic factor is no longer the only predominant one.

From the 70s to today, in some countries like the US, the incidence of myopia has doubled by 42%, and in some countries like South Korea, as is the case in the capital, Seoul, up to 96.5% of 19-year-old males suffer from myopia.

These figures show that the problem is due to our changing habits, especially among young people, who spend more and more hours indoors staring at computer screens, smartphones, and tablets.

Myopia prevention

Natural light has been proven to be a decisive factor in the prevention of myopia. Therefore, at Óptica LUPER we advise:

  • Play outdoors as much as possible
  • When reading or watching television, we should always do so with natural light whenever possible.
  • Do not get too close to your mobile, tablet or computer. Maintain a minimum distance of 60 cm.

Óptica LUPER has promoted this action to try to change the perspective of children who wear or will have to wear glasses without feeling ashamed of it. Doing it from a different perspective.

Primary school children had to personalize their cardboard glasses with the different materials available in the classroom to give free rein to their imagination and shape the frames of their new glasses.

In this way, children are shown that wearing glasses doesn't have to be boring. In addition, prior to the activity and thanks to the collaboration of the teaching staff, a series of tips are shown to the children to try, as much as possible, to prevent this type of refractive error.

Among all the personalized glasses by each of the students in the classroom, Óptica LUPER, to spread the action and reach more people, launches a photo contest so that the parents of the participating students, as well as their friends, can vote for their favorite by clicking here starting on April 26.

The 10 most voted personalized LUPER glasses will win a pair of Óptica LUPER sunglasses. But that's not all. Parents of students, as well as other family members, are offered a Personalized Eye Exam at Óptica LUPER Murcia.
